The wedding picture was taken on June 23, 1984. I was 8 years old and Katri was 3 years old. Happy 23rd wedding anniversary to Antti and Hilkka! I love you both SO much!

Maya's 1st birthday (a little early) #1, Mayan ensimmäinen syntymäpäivää (vähän ennakkoon!)

We celebrated Maya's 1st birthday a month early at Komula with Anne's family members. We are also going to celebrate again this Sunday with Aki's family! Life is one big party!
Juhlimme Maya ensimmäistä syntymäpäivää Komulassa Annen sukulaitten kanssa. Tulevalla sunnuntaina juhlimme Akin sukulaitten kanssa!

Rex and his buddy Remu- Rekku ja kamunsa Remu

Here is Rex and his buddy Remu. Remu is our dear friends Mikko's and Riikka's 6 year old male border collie. Rex and Remu got along wonderfully. No arguments or fights! The dogs ran and swam SO much that Rex slept the entire next day! We visited Mikko and Riikka at their family summer cottage on Kellojärvi. Aki caught an almost 10 pound northern pike with a lure!

Tässä on Rex kamunsa Remun kanssa. Remu on ystävemme Mikon ja Riikan 6 vuotias uros border collie. Rex ja Remu tulivat tosi hyvin toimeen.. eivät riidelty ollenkaan! Kävimme Mikon ja Riikan perheen kesämökilla Kellojärvellä. Aki sai uistimella melkein 5 kilon hauen!

Midsummer's Eve 2007- Juhannus 2007

These pictures were taken on Friday, June 222nd. It is the longest day of the year. Until that day the days have gotten longer in length here in northern Finland. Now since Midsummer's has passed, the days are slowly getting shorter. It is tradition to burn a large fire, or kokko, on Midsummer's eve. We celebrated with friends and family at the lake at my mom's childhood home, Komula. We cooked sausages and crepe-type pancakes over the fire. We drank and had a great time! These pictures were taken around 7-8pm.

Maya and Pirjo.

We went to visit Anne's oldest friend (our dads were best buddies during the 60's!) Heidi and her family in a small town called Juuka. Heidi and her fiance live on a farm and have 13 cows. They also have 2 daughters, Pirjo-2 yr, and Päivi- 6mo. Maya and Pirjo kept busy playing together!
Kävimme Annen vanhin ystävän Heidin luonna. Meidän isät olivat parhaat kaverit 60 luvulla! Heidi perheineen asuvat maatilalla Juukassa. Heillä on 13 lehmää ja myös 2 tytärtä! Maya ja Pirjo pitivät hauskaa yhdessä!

Maya and Mamma

Here is Maya with her Mamma. They hadn't seen each other in almost 3 weeks! It took a few hours for Maya to warm back up to Mamma but now things are wonderful.
Maya is busy learning new things. She is talking in Finnish, but doesn't understand everything that she is saying. She says 'EI', which is NO. This she may understand because she says it back when we say it to her and sometimes she says it even before we can get a chance to!
She also says 'ÄITI' which is MOM in Finnish. THis I don't think she understands yet. She probably hears all the kids saying it. She says 'EX' for REX, the dog. This she does understand. She gets so excited to see the dog!

Tässä on Maya ja hänen Mamma. Eivät nähneet toisiaan melkein kolmeen viikkoon- Alussa Maya ujoteli mutta nyt kaikki on kun ennenkin. M;aya on oppinut paljon uusia asiota. Hän puhuu muutamia sanoja mutta en usko että hän ymmärtää kaiken mitä hän sanoo. Hän sanoo 'EI' ja sen uskon että hän jotenkutn ymmärtää. Maya sanoo 'ÄITI' - tätäen usko että tyttö ymmärtää. Varmaan matkii toisia lapsia. Hän sanoo 'EX' mikä tarkoitta REX, meidän koiran nimen. Tän uskon että Maya ymmärtää. Hän nauraa ja ilahtuu kun Rekkua näkee!

This is a special occasion! I traveled to Finland for the first time in December of 1976 when I was Maya's age. And My mom bathed me in the kitchen sink of her childhood home, Komula, as there is no shower or tub there. There is a picture of me in the sink somewhere...I just have to find it! Maya enjoyed her bath! Cousin Ernesti is a big help with Maya!

Tämä on tärkeä tapahtuma! Minä matkustin suomeen joulukuussa 1976 ensimmäistä kertaa kun olin saman ikäinen kun Maya. Äitini kylvetti minut hänenlapsuuden kodin keittiön lavuaarissa koska Komulassa ei ole suihkua tai kylpyametta. Minusta on myös samanlainen kuva jossain..pitäisi ehtiä! Maya nautti kylvystään! Ernesti-serkku on iso apu Mayan kanssa!

Visiting friends...

Here we are visiting with our friends Pasi and Taina and their three children Noora, Riku and Petra. Maya had a fun time playing with the kids!
Tässä olimme käymässä ystävien Pasin ja Tainan ja heidän kolmen lasten Noora, Riku ja Petran luonna. Mayalla oli hauskaa lasten kanssa!

My uncle's wife inherited this old motorcyle. It was in pieces when she and my uncle Erkki and my dad went to go get it last night. The men have been working on the motorcycle and talking about it like kids on Christmas! We are not completely sure what year the bike is...possibly from the 1940's.

Enoni vaimo sai tän vanhan mootoripyörän. Se oli paloisena kun hän meni, enoni Erkin ja isäni kanssa sitä hakemaan Lentiirasta. Miehet ovat ollut kun pikkulapset kun puhuvat ja touhuvat innoissaan pyörän kanssa! Emme ole varma milta vuodelta pyörä on..ehka 40 luvulta.

Rex's new girlfriend.. Rexin uusi tyttökaveri

Rex's new girlfriend is Ida, a Leonberger breed of dog. Ida eats about 2-3 pounds of food a day and she weighs about 140 pounds. Rex can run cirlcles around her, but they have a great time! Ida is our good friend Mikko's dog.

Rexin uusi tyttökaveri on leonberginkoira nimelta Ida. Ida syö 1-1.5 kg ruokaa päivässa ja painaa n. 70kg. Rex juoksi ympyrää Ida ympäri mutta niilla oli tosi hauskaa yhdessä! Ida on ystävämme Mikon koira.

Mummo bought Maya her own travel backpack with cow's print. Maya loves it! She pulls it behind her all over the house!
