SNOW!!! LUNTA!!!

This is what we woke up to this morning... SNOW!!! Maya was so excited and wanted to make a little snowball because there was just a little snow outside! We had another exciting thing happen today... the kids Halloween costumes arrived in the mail! Oh glorious day! Maya will be a mermaid and ELias Superman! Elias has started copying a little what we say. If I ask him to say "Maya" He says "Yaya"! That's better than nothing! He tries to say diaper and sock in Finnish. But we have to prompt him to say stuff...it doesn't just come out on his own. Typical male! Elias will have his hearing checked October 15.

Tahan herattiin tana aamuna... LUNTA!! Maya oli niin innoissaan ja haluisi tehda vaan pienen lumipallon kun oli vaan vahan lunta ulkona maassa! Toinen ihana asia tapahtui tanaan... lasten Halloween asut tulivan postissa! maya on merenneito ja Elias Supermies. Elias vahan matkii mita sanotaan nykyaan. Jos ma pyydan hanet sanomaan "Maya" han sanoo "Jaja" Yrittaa myos matkia sanat Vaippa ja Sukka. Ei itestaan tule naita sanoja mutta jostain pitaa aloittaa! Eliakset kuulo testataan 15.10.

Potun nostuu.. Digging up potatoes

Here is our little garden and Aki and it was time to dig up the potatoes we planted in the spring. We got so much rain this summer that the potatoes didn't grow as big as they did last year... And it was SO cold the other day when we were digging up the potatoes that Maya didn't even want to stay outside the whole time! She kept complaining that her cheeks were cold!
Tassa meidan pikkuinen kasvimaa. Potut nostettiin toissa paivana mutta olivat paljon pienempia kun viime kesana. Varmaan siita kun tuli niin hirveesti vetta kesalla. Ja oli niin kylma ilma kun paatettiin tata tehda! Maya ei jaksannut olla pihalla koko ajan ja sanoi etta poskia paleli!

Elias is 18 months old! Elias on 18kk vanha!

ELIAS IS 18 MONTHS OLD TODAY!! I can't believe that in 6 months he will be 2! Where has the time gone! 18 months ago I birthed a 9# 5 oz baby boy and now he is an active toddler. Elias LOVES trucks. He makes "brrmm brrmm" noises ALL the time and pushes cars and trucks all over. He is very active. Tries to keep up with his sister for sure! He isn't saying too much.. He of course says "Mamma" and "Pappa" (grandmother and grandfather in Finnish- ANne's mom and dad) he said something like "bye" the other day and tried to say "poppa" ("hot" in Finnish). I'm a little concerned and so I'm going to get his hearing tested soon to make sure the tubes haven't affected his hearing.

ELIAS ON 18KK VANHA TANAAN!! En voi uskoa! Elias rakastaa autoja ja aina porrottelee ympari meidan kotia tyontaen autoja! Erittain aktiivinen poika- yrittaa kovasti pysya siskon perassa! Elias ei vaan hirveesti puhu.. Sanoo "Mamma" ja "Pappa" ja yritti sanoi "bye" ja viime viikonloppuna sanoi jotain mika kuulosti "poppa". Olen vahan huolistunut ja aion vieda hanen kuulon testaamaan...

COLD!!! KYLMA!!

This is our backyard! The fall tundra is beautiful and the edges of our pond has ice... This morning the entire pond was frozen!

The temps have DROPPED! The highs are only in the low 40s and the past 2 mornings have been in the 20s!

Our dear friend Shea got a new "baby". His name is George and he is some sort of Chihuawa mix that she got from the ASPCA in Anchorage. He and Shea came to visit the other evening. Maya was such a good puppy holder! Elias didn't know what to think! Rex ignored the puppy COMPLETELY! Rex has gotten a little cantankerous in his old age. He doesn't like puppies or small dogs much anymore...

Meidan ystavamme Shea sai uuden "vauvan" ! Sen nimi on George. Shea ja George kavivat meilla viime viikolla yhtena iltana. Maya oli erittain hyva koiranpennun hoitaja. Elias ei tiennyt mita ajatella ja Rekku koira ei valittanyt siita koiranpennusta ollenkaan!

This fallen tree was great fun this weekend! Maya said that is was a horse, a train and of course it was Alaska Airlines flying us to Florida!

Tama puu oli tosi hauskaa tana viikonloppuna! Mayan mielesta se oli hevoinen, juna ja tietysti Alaska Airlines ja valmis viemaan meidat Floridaan Mamman luo!

Silver salmon season is ending but we found a secret fishing hole! We could see the salmon just swimming around. I saw this salmon take Aki's line and Maya helped reel it in. I did not get a fish AT ALL this summer! If you can believe it! It wasn't my turn to catch a fish! But Maya was so excited about this one. We didn't keep it... it's already so red that it wouldn't be too good to eat. And, we are now salmon snobs, so of course we wouldn't eat it!! :)
Lohi kausi on loppumassa ja loydimme salainen lohi paikka! Nahtiin kun lohet vaan uivat meidan ympari! Nain ite kun Aki sai tan lohen uistimella kiinni. Maya auttoi kelamisessa ja oli niin innoissaan! Mina en saanut yhtakaan kalaa onkimalla koko kesan. Ei varmaan ollut mun kesa! Me paastettiin taman kalan takaisin veteen. Se on sen verran punainen ettei ehka ollut niin hyvaa syoda.

Last Saturday was amazingly warm and sunny (as in mid 60s!). So, what do good Bethel kids do who don't have a pool to swim in... PLAY IN THE MUD PUDDLES!! The kids had such a great time!
