Killer whales... Miekkavalas

It was amazing to see orcas in the wild. I have seen them at Sea World and they do the same kinds of things in the wild! Maya loved watching the whales and she laughed and laughed! It was amazing to these these beautiful creatures in the wild. THe last picture is of Seward's small boat harbor.

We went on a cruise of the Kenai Fjords National Park. It was supposed to be a 6 hour tour on a large catamaran (what I was thinking when I reserved this I do not know... a 6 hour cruise with an almost 2 year old toddler!!!) We were warned when we arrived that the weather was bad and that the cruise may be cut short. We ended up doing only 4 hours but we saw so many marine animals! And the 4 hours was just about Maya's max. Thank goodness it got cut short!!

Kavimme vene risteilylla tanaan Kenai Fjords Kansallis Puistossa. Se ois pitanyt olla 6 tuntia mutta saat oli huonot ja meita varoitetiin etta ristily voi lyhentaa saan takia. Olimme 4 tuntia risteilylla ja me nahtiin niin monta elaimia! Olimme 4 tuntia risteilylla ja se oli just mita Maya jaksoi kestaa. Onneksi sita lyhennettiin!

Our Campground... Leirintaalue

These are pictures of the RV park at Miller's Landing which is where we are staying for a total of 3 nights. We have a gorgeous view of Resurrection Bay surrounded by mountains.

Exit Glacier. Exit Jaatikko

These are pictures of Exit Glacier from 6/24/06. There's a short hike about 0.7mione way at a national park and you can walk almost right to the glacier. We are so proud of Mamma! She almost made it the whole way! Maya walked/ran about a mile. She was SO tired last night!

Tassa on kuvia Exit jaatikosta otettu 24.6.08. On kansallispuistossa noin 1km vaellus yhteen suuntaan ja paasee tosi lahelle sita jaatikkoa. Mamman ensimmainen vaellus retki- ja se meni hyvin! Maya kaveli/juoksi varmaan yli kilometrin! Neiti oli NIIN vasynyt illalla!

Riina ja Patrik tulivat viikon lomalle. Erkki pääsi myös Kainuun Prikaatilta lomalle ja Aino tuli Kuhmosta, missä hän on aloittanut kesätyön Kuhmon Kamarimusiikissa.

Aattona olimme Komulan rannassa, jossa poltettiin Ernestin ja Anteron rakentama kokko. Komeasti se paloi!

Seward, Alaska

Now we are in Seward, Alaska. This is absolutely gorgeous!! We are staying at Miller Landing and we look out over the water with mountains in the background.

Nyt olemme Seward, Alaskassa. Aivan mahtavat maisemat! Meidan leirintaalue on ihan meren rannalla ja vuoret ovat meidan ymparilla.

Kenai

The guys went fishing and caught rainbow trout. THe largest was 27 inches but they had to let them go because they are a protected species of fish here. (It just might be a fish story!!) Aki, Onerva and I went on a 2 hour float down the Kenai river, which was beautiful! An adolescent bear crossed the road as we were driving back from the drop off point of the rafting trip. We saw over 20 bald eagles. The guys got a close encounter with a bear...it creeped up around them trying to get a fisherman's fish. It was about 100 ft away when the guide was able to scare the bear away.

Miehet kavivat kalalla ja saivatkirjolohta. Suurin oli 40cm mutta paastivat sen menemaan. Kirjolohet ovat suojattu ja niita ja pideta. Mina, Onerva ja Aki kaytiin 2 tunnin lievan kosken laskun. Nahtiin yli 20 kotkaa ja nahttin karhun juoksevan tien yli matkalla leirintaalueelle! Karhu tuli 30m paasta miehia kun olivat kalalla eilen... karhu yritti viedan yhden miehen kalat ennekun opas sai sen hatistelty takaisin mehtaan.

Entiset partiolaiset nayttavat miten kokon sytytetaan! Maya oli niin iso apu ja toi risuja Mammalle kokkoon laitettavaksi.

Here are the old scouts showing us how to start our mid-summer's fire. Maya was sucha big help and she found little twigs to bring to burn in the fire!!
