It's amazing how much the weather impacts life here on the Delta.
Some of the shelves in the store at Marshall were on the empty side and as I was leaving I began to understand why. In one of the pictures you can see the plane filled with goods. I think you can see mayonnaise jars through the window. There is a gentleman named Bruce who works for the airplane companies and transports goods and people and US Mail to and from the town of Marshall and the airstrip about 1/2 mile away. This is how the store gets most of it's supplies. It gets what can fit into an 8 seater Cessna at a given time. Only several times throughout the year is a larger cargo plane able to bring about 5000 lb of goods at a time. Some of the stuff that was delivered by that plane to Marshall from Bethel was Tang, paper towels, Gatorade, ramen noodles, Pepsi, and Mail. Bruce was hoping for eggs, as the store was out of eggs today. The pilot said that maybe on the next flight. I am so glad that I get to see different places on this beautiful planet and also get to experience how people live in very rural Alaska.
Ihmeellista miten saa vaikuttaa jokapaivasta elamaa taalla perukassa. Huomasin etta jotkun hyllyt Marshallin kaupassa oli aika tyhjia. Vasta kun olin lahdossa tajusin miksi. Se kona milla lahdin Betheliin oli taynna ruokaa, juomia, talouspaperia, makarooneja jne. Marshallin kaupalle. Suurimman osan heidan tavaroistaan tulee pien koneilla jos ja milloin ne paasee lentamaan. Vaan muutama kerta vuodessa tulee iso kone ja tuo noin 2500kg edesta ruokatavaraa. Bruce on toissa lentiyhtioille ja vie ja tuo tavaraa lentalta Marshallin kylalle. Han kyseli kananmunia kapteenilta koska oli loppunut kaupasta kokonaan. Kapteeni sanoi etta ehka seuraavalla lennolla. Kylla meilla on asiat hyvin ja HELPPOA Bethelissa!!! Mina olen kiitollinen etta saan kayda ja tutustua uusiin, kauniisiin paikkoihin ja myos kokea elamaa Alaska perukassa.
